Good Things Coming Soon
Enrollment trend
We are excited about the prospects we see already for new student enrollments for the coming year. Inquiries for new enrollment are higher this year than they’ve been in nine years; for ninth grade alone, inquiries have tripled. Please return your own re-enrollment contract byMarch 15 so that we can thoughtfully plan for staffing and potential wait lists for certain grades.

Lacrosse is back
We will field both a girls’ and a boys’ lacrosse team  this spring. By committing early to having good,  experienced coaches and rallying students (and their  parents) around a “participation ethic” in this  community, we have been able to build new teams  and enthusiasm. As one boy said to me last week, “It  just makes me happy to see lacrosse sticks in the  hallway and to know that after school a bunch of us  are going to be passing around while other kids are  throwing baseballs to get ready for spring.” Spanish  teacher and experienced varsity coach Jess Durfey  will lead the girls program; helping new players develop skills will be parents Sara Trigg and Dale Choate, both of whom played college lacrosse and have their own experience leading lacrosse teams at other schools. The boys’ program is being re-built by Kevin O’Neil, who is well known across the Cape for leading the Barnstable Youth Lacrosse program and his own playing days at Syracuse and UMass.

That participation ethic
Try something new, stretch yourself to get better, commit to being a contributor. This spring 70% of students eligible for interscholastic sports are coming out for a team. This is how this small school can offer baseball, tennis, lacrosse and sailing. It’s a philosophical commitment to offer students choices that open opportunities rather than narrow them, and we’ve developed the “can do” culture to make it work.

CCA sailors to Ireland for International Event
Our program began just six years ago but has been to the US National Championships four times (placing 2nd, 5th, 10th, and 12th) and three times been New England Champions or Runner-up. Now coach Brent Jansen is giving our kids experience against international competition! CCA sailors will travel this month to Cork to compete against European clubs, participate in the St. Patrick’s Day parade, and live with host families. In preparation for this event, our varsity team has been training with the Tufts University sailing team the last two weeks. Many of our CCA sailors go on to be recruited by US college sailing coaches. (Coach Jansen was an All-American and National Fleet Racing Champion as a collegian; he led Milton Academy sailing to five National Championships and directs the racing programs at Wianno Yacht Club.)
