Update on Reopening Plans (July 2)

Dear Families,

Last week, Governor Baker announced the release of the Initial Fall School Reopening Guidance that has been prepared by Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Commissioner, Jeffrey C. Riley. In summary, DESE has set a goal for the safe return of as many students as possible to in-person school settings this fall. Cape Cod Academy will be opening in the fall on September 8.

A few key points that were announced include:
  • DESE’s health and safety requirements for in-person learning are grounded in scientific literature and discussions with expert medical advisors. Guidelines include keeping a minimum physical distance of three feet of space, hand washing/hand sanitizing, and staying home when sick.
  • DESE will provide further guidance and support in the coming weeks for additional elements of operations and programming, such as transportation, athletics, and other extracurricular programming.
I am pleased to say that Cape Cod Academy’s Reopening Team continues its work to plan a safe and thoughtful return to school in September. Our campus and interior classroom layout provide a unique opportunity for students to spread out and stay aligned with the necessary social distancing requirements.

In the interest of efficiency, all back-to-school forms and information will be available online on Cape Cod Academy’s website beginning mid-July. The school will not mail out forms this summer. Parents and students can access resources, summer work, and important forms on the website that need to be completed prior to the first day of school.

I will continue to keep you updated throughout the summer. A detailed plan outlining reopening procedures will be shared soon. As always, if you have any questions, please email me at jthompson@capecodacademy.org. We look forward to welcoming all our students back to school this fall.
  Sincerely,
