School Nurse

Cape Cod Academy seeks a full-time School Nurse to begin duties commencing on or around August 15, 2018.

The School Nurse is responsible for administrating primary care nursing to ill and injured students in addition to providing assessment, examination, referral and follow-up according to policies and procedures. The nurse should have demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interprofessional teams.

In addition to the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate should have a high-level attention to detail, a kind and patient demeanor, excellent communication and collaborative skills and an understanding of adolescents and school communities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate of a professional nursing program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
  • Maintain current license as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid from a recognized provider

PERFORMANCE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with others to collect and store all student health forms at the start of each school year
  • Provide care to any individual in the case of sudden injury or illness in a calm and effective manner and document care provided
  • Complete accident reports and maintain a log of health room activity
  • Develop and implement health care plans and emergency plans for any student with significant health problems and allergies
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to administer medications appropriately, in keeping with school policy on administration of medication in the school
  • Collaborate with staff and teachers to identify the health needs that interfere with effective learning
  • Participate in school safety awareness and recommend modifications necessary to maintain optimum health and safety of students and school personnel
  • Facilitate and manage Essential School Health Service program grant funding as applicable
  • Participate in team conferences regarding children with significant medical needs
  • Maintain First Aid supplies and equipment, including AEDs throughout the campus
  • Be a resource for parents, students and faculty/staff in matters pertaining to health
  • Be a mandated reporter in accordance with MGL Chapter 119, Section 51A regarding abuse of children
  • Be, or become, certified to teach CPR and First Aid to faculty/staff and student groups.
  • Additional tasks and projects as needed to support the health and wellness of the CCA community
