CCA Humanities Teacher Speaks at First Annual Netzero Roundtable

On Thursday, September 27th, CCA humanities teacher, Keith Lewison, attended the Cape Cod Climate Change Collaborative's (5Cs) First Annual Netzero Roundtable. Keith gave a presentation, referred to as a success story, about the 2017 Climate Change Youth Summit that was held at CCA, and for which he was a lead organizer.

Keith discussed how today’s youth realize that climate change is the greatest challenge their generation faces. However, rarely do they have the opportunity to learn and act collectively on this issue. Keith shared his successful experience organizing the first Youth Summit on Climate Change in the spring of 2017 when he was instrumental in gathering over 100 students from across the Cape to participate. Together students heard from experts about the latest climate science and discussed potential local impacts. The day’s work prepared students to talk directly with regional decision-makers. Students left the summit energized and equipped to return to their own schools to mitigate the effects of climate change on Cape Cod.

Keith served on the planning committee for the Netzero Roundtable and also served as the facilitator for the education section, which involved working with about a half dozen other attending educators to brainstorm ways to help Cape and Islands students become leaders on climate change locally.
