Empow Studios will be offering the following STEM camps for four weeks:
July: 6, 13, 20 and 27th.
Tech & Design Exploratory - Elementary
Back for 2020 and even better than before! One of our most popular programs and the ideal starting place for many elementary school kids looking to explore technology. Campers who want to explore all kinds of fun technology, find out what options are available, and realize their areas of greatest passion will have a wide range of options to dive into: Video Game Design, Digital Animation, Stop-Motion Animation, EV3 Robotics, 3D Arts & Printing, 3D Architecture, Digital Audio Production, and Coding/Programming Fundamentals in Scratch and Python. Campers are encouraged to sample several subjects, dig deeper in areas that excite them, or continue to explore. Campers will create several small projects, such as a digitally-animated movie, a playable video game, or a 3D print of an original creature to take home.
Grades:2-5
Level:Beg-Int
Experience needed: Basic keyboard skills and ability to use a mouse
Tech & Design Exploratory - Middle School
For the first time in 2020, we’ve created a program just for middle-schoolers! Middle-school aged campers looking to explore a broad range of options or to focus on a particular tech subject will have a opportunity to dive into Video Game Design, Digital Animation, Stop-Motion Animation, EV3 Robotics, 3D Arts & Printing, 3D Architecture, Digital Audio Production, and Coding/Programming Fundamentals in Scratch, Python and Java. Campers are encouraged to explore several options over the first two days, dive deeper in specific areas to tackle more sophisticated projects, or continue to explore their options. Campers will build and program a robot, produce a stop-motion animated film, design a playable video game, or any number of other tech projects.
Grades:6-8
Level:Beg-Int
Experience needed: Basic keyboard skills and ability to use a mouse
Minecraft Arts
Minecraft, one of our most popular programs, isn’t just for video gamers-- it’s for explorers, designers, and builders, too! New and emerging Minecraft campers interested in visual design, exploring worlds, creating structures, and understanding how mechanisms work will explore the basics of art, architecture, animation, and the patented Redstone circuitry on Minecraft’s Education Edition platform. Campers will design animated sprites with command blocks, create maps of their unique worlds, and collaborate on a friend’s world. Projects can be taken home as digital files so that kids can keep exploring their worlds after camp has ended.
Grades:2-5
Level:Beg-Int
Experience needed: Basic keyboard skills and ability to use a mouse
Advanced Minecraft, Middle School
Up for the next-level challenges, adventures, and cool contraptions of Minecraft, but in the exclusive company of other middle-schoolers? Right this way… Campers who have graduated from the exploration phase and are ready to dive deeper into the customization functions of the game will examine Minecraft’s patented Redstone circuitry, command blocks, and modding tracks. They’ll create new sprites using MCreator software, a Rube Goldberg-like mechanism and chain reaction, and a detailed “adventure map” with puzzles and challenges. Campers will take home completed projects (like a mini-game or mechanized fireworks display) and maps to share and re-examine.
Grades:6-8
Level:Int-Adv
Experience needed: Basic keyboard skills and ability to use a mouse; prior Minecraft experience.
