Senior Day 2010

Senior Day celebrates the accomplishments of our students
The Senior Day Ceremony also included the presentation of the Eighth Grade Community Service Award and the College Book Awards. The Eighth Grade Community Service Award is given in the memory of Jon Payzant to a student who, in his or her growth, best exemplifies those qualities of wit, talent, and kindness. This year, the recipient was Molly Murphy.
The College Book Awards are bestowed upon students in the Junior class who have achieved the highest academic standards. Head of School, Clark Daggett and College Counselors, Mrs. Bellamy and Mr. Brown presented the following awards:
Amherst College - Olivia Rauss
Brown University - Julia Massard
Dartmouth College – Lindsey Bergh
Harvard College - Tyler Kugler
Rensselaer Medal Award - Luke Blanco
Saint Michael’s College - Eliza McGowen
Smith College - Catherine Olsen
Wellesley College - Mary (Molly) Prothero
Wheaton College - Emily Condos
Williams College - Jonathan Zelman

Christina Smith was chosen by her classmates to deliver the Senior Day Address. Tina has been a student at Cape Cod Academy since kindergarten, a former Eighth Grade Community Service Award recipient, a highly motivated student, accomplished athlete, and outstanding community service volunteer. Christina reminisced about learning about Shakespeare in sixth grade and used this quote from As You Like It, “All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.”
Miss Smith drew parallels between a theater production and life’s journey. She imparted the following advice to the underclassmen, "Respect each other, embrace life, do the best you can, and most importantly get rid of the unnecessary drama that smothers our everyday life."
The presentation of the Class Gift was delivered by Gregory Mitrokostas and Max Sullivan. This year the Class of 2010 will compile a series of flags that will be on display in Davis Commons. These flags will represent the many nationality of students that are present and have graduated from CCA, symbolizing the diverse academic community that CCA fosters.
This year’s members of the senior class voted to dedicate their yearbook to Mr. Brad Garrity. Chelsea Smith, Aidan Moriarity, and Kelsey Wheeler presented Mr. Garrity with a framed copy of the dedication. Mr. Garrity joined CCA in 2006 as Chair of the Science Department and teaches biology, chemistry, and coaches golf and has served as assistant coach of boys varsity basketball. Mr. Garrity joins a distinguished list of CCA faculty who have been so honored by the yearbook staff which include:
2004 - Mrs. Erni Johnston
2005 - Mr. Kerry Brown
2006 - Mr. Thomas Evans
2007 - Mrs. Claire Thompson
2008 - Mr. Richard Colby
2009 - Mr. Aaron Crowell CCA '86
The CCA Chorale performed the song, The Riddle.
Head of School Clark Daggett's closing address contained an important message to our students for the expectations of their involvement within the community in the next four weeks and into their futures.
The Senior Class Video, drew much laughter as the audience watched a photo montage of the senior class, some pictures dating as far back as the third grade. A heartfelt thank you to Erni Johnson, Humanities teacher, senior class advisor, and yearbook advisor for her time, effort, and care in creating this tribute to the Class of 2010. Thank you to Technology Coordinator Mary Beth Bergh for her technical assistance. The ceremony ended with the Senior Class Advisors presentation of gifts and well wishes to the Class of 2010. A reception was enjoyed by the seniors, the parents, trustees, and faculty in Chope Commons.

Congratulations Class of 2010!
