CCA’s curriculum is a rigorous college preparatory program. In addition, we offer SAT and ACT preparation in the junior year taught by CCA faculty in partnership with Summit Educational Group, which provides thorough test-preparation textbooks for the review sessions. We have found Summit’s preparation materials superior to those of competing companies.
CEEB: College Entrance Examination Board, College Board for short. This organization offers many tests (SAT, AP, Subject Tests) required by most colleges.
ETS: The Educational Testing Service of the College Board. this agency which creates and oversees the SAT and Subject Tests.
SAT: Scholastic Assessment Test. Test of verbal & mathematical reasoning, critical reading, problem-solving and writing.
Subject Tests: One-hour assessments of individual subject areas important to college performance and course placement, administered on specific Saturday mornings at specific locations, like the SAT. A student can take up to three on one test-date, but studies show that students who take only two on one test-date score higher than those who take three.
PSAT: Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test. This is a practice test for the SAT and also an externally created and scored assessment that helps schools analyze their teaching and curriculum. It is also the qualifying test for National Merit Scholarship program in the junior year but only for US citizens. PSAT scores are not reported to colleges.
APs: Advanced Placement tests—the culminating assessments for AP courses. These tests can also qualify students for advanced standing in college curricula and/or college credit, which can shorten college, lessen tuition costs and/or enable students to take time off to do internships or study abroad.
