Lower School

Lower School Traditions

CCA Students learn the value of traditions at an early age.

List of 8 items.

  • 5th Grade Leadership

Our fifth grade students are empowered to create leadership opportunities within their Lower School throughout the year. One example of this is our pizza lunch days where students collect money for weekly lunch pizza delivery and donate their proceeds to local charities.
  • Field Day

At the start of each school year, CCA students are randomly assigned to Team White or Team Blue - across all school divisions. The goal is that each team will be comprised of students in K-12, actively working as a 'team' throughout the year, earning points through various activites. This all culminates in Field Day where Lower, Middle and Upper School students participate in their division-level activities to determine whether Team Blue or Team White will prevail!
  • Ringing the Tower Bell

It's an old tradition here in Osterville to hear the ringing of the bell in Cape Cod Academy's Chope Commons at 8AM each school day morning. Students in the Lower School are chosen to ring the bell to welcome their peers and say good morning to their community.
  • Traditional and Patriotic Songs

During Morning Meeting each day, 5th grade students are chosen to lead their Lower School peers in a patriot song of their choosing at the start of Community Meeting.
  • 5th Grade Memoir

Our 5th graders spend the spring writing thoughtful memoirs of their lives to share during their “moving up” ceremony on the last day of school.  Heartwarming stories that are a culmination of the students’ time in Lower School weave a tale of each class’s successes, challenges, friendships and experiences.  This is a highlight of a CCA Lower School student’s tenure.
  • Buddies

Cross-grade book buddies meet once a month to read with each other and to get to know one another providing opportunities for the youngest students to get to know the eldest.
  • Multicultural Lunch

Each spring, the entire K-12 community partakes in a multicultural potluck in the Lower School Gym.  Families bring a dish to share that is representative of their culture and the parents and students each lunch together to celebrate our diversity.
  • 5th Grade Athletics

When appropriate and should space allow, CCA’s Middle School interscholastic athletic program is available for our fifth graders in the sports of cross country, golf, soccer, basketball, tennis and lacrosse.
Cape Cod Academy is one of the only independent, co-educational, college preparatory schools serving students from kindergarten to grade 12 on Cape Cod.
