CCA Welcomes New Head of School

Phil has a most impressive background. He holds a B.A. in Education and Political Science from Wake Forest University, and an M.S. in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. For the past five years, he has served as Principal of Memorial Middle School in Medford, New Jersey, one of the state’s most highly acclaimed districts. During his tenure at Memorial Middle School, it was named a “2009 National School to Watch for Academic Excellence,” one of only two hundred schools in the nation to receive this distinction.

The process of selecting the new Head of School was thorough and inclusive. Over 50 candidates applied. Six semi-finalists visited the school for one day each, and then three outstanding finalists spent a total of two and a half days here at CCA. The Board owes thanks to all members of the faculty and administration who took time from their busy schedules to meet the candidates. In particular, we thank the faculty advisory committee of Brad Garrity and Sue Vandemoer, Janice Hank, Jan Rapp, Irene Santos, Larry Brown, Gretchen Tanzer, Jenn Peterson, Aaron Crowell, Carrie Christopher, Pat Viens and Lee Plummer. We also thank the parent advisory committee of Kathy Mingle and Louladey Assefa, Eileen Heffernan, Scott Hogan, Deb Kaufmann, Karen Rauss, Kathy Smith and David Souza for their thoughtful evaluations. It all ran smoothly because of Carrie Christopher and Jean McCutcheon, who coordinated everything for the candidates and their spouses. Finally, our search committee of Roger Boocock, Brad Garrity, Jim Hoeck, Charlene Holland, Jean McCutcheon, Kathy Mingle, Sonya Mitchell, Joe Remillard, and Chris Wadsworth, assisted by search consultant Tom Evans of RG175, spent endless hours reviewing and interviewing!
