Cape Cod Academy’s Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Cape Cod Academy promotes and cultivates a climate of mutual respect, inclusion, kindness, and concern for one another. As our mission states, “Cape Cod Academy fosters a life-long drive to learn and grow and make a difference in the world.” This includes valuing the experience and happiness of others as we do our own. Compassion helps us recognize the struggles of others and spurs us to help with humility and respect.

Our school is committed to supporting students, faculty, and staff regarding all issues of equity and opportunity as they relate to race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, learning style, and interests. We, along with many other academic institutions, are taking a thoughtful look at our school to see how we are dealing with the question of race, religion, disabilities, and differences, the diversity of our school population, and the depth of our curriculum. We are fully committed to moving forward to ensure that Cape Cod Academy is a place where students, faculty, and staff of all races, religions, and ethnicities can grow and thrive and that our students will have an education that will prepare them to engage in the world with intelligence, awareness, and equity.

Cape Cod Academy strives to be a school where differences are respected and celebrated. A diverse community is a vital part of our students’ academic and social growth and helps to prepare them to be successful in college, healthy in life, and contributors to society - both locally and globally.

A Message About Diversity and Inclusion from Our Headmaster

This has been an explosive year in our country’s history. We are in the midst of a global pandemic, we are reexamining who we are as a nation, we are witnessing how people of color are being treated, and we are experiencing a political struggle that will shape the future of our country for years to come. Through this, Cape Cod Academy is committed to ensuring that the way we teach is representative of who we are. We strive to be a school where differences are respected and celebrated.

As this year has clearly illustrated, we are living in a dynamic world of constant change, and our understanding and support of diversity and equity will need to evolve and grow. Cape Cod Academy will continue to work collaboratively to strengthen our programs and policies and seek to improve in areas where needed. We have lots to do, and it will take time.

We are working every day to create an inclusive environment by inspiring our community of learners to:
  • Share ideas and personal experiences.
  • Respect each and every person.
  • Appreciate an array of opinions, lifestyles, beliefs, and ways of thinking.
Our efforts include:
  • Educating constituents through special speakers and programming opportunities.
  • Providing training for faculty and staff so they are confident and able to lead meaningful discussions about diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Organizing opportunities for listening, such as small-group discussions for members of our community.
  • Supporting student-led organizations that focus on diversity and equality.
  • Examining the school’s curriculum to ensure it represents the aspects of diversity and that we devote the resources to support this.
Our goal as an educational institution is to give our students the skills and tools to be able to make informed decisions. Teaching them to listen, consider, and respect different viewpoints will enrich their lives. We encourage all members of our community to maintain this open and honest dialogue and foster a culture of inclusivity. Together, we can be the school where everyone feels unconditional acceptance.
Cape Cod Academy is one of the only independent, co-educational, college preparatory schools serving students from kindergarten to grade 12 on Cape Cod.
